317 Stainless Steel Fasteners are made up of a chromium nickel molybdenum alloy that is corrosion resistant and strong. The material has 19% chromium, 12.5% nickel, 3.25% molybdenum, iron, carbon, silicon, sulfur, phosphorus, nitrogen and manganese in the composition. The 317 stainless steel bolts and nuts are resistant to chemical attacks, better than other austenitic stainless steel grades. While the grade 317 SS Stud Bolt is tougher than 304 grade stainless steel, it is recommended to use chip breakers while machining them. The hardenability of 317 grade stainless steel will reduce if constant feeds and low speeds are used.The SS 317 Screws have excellent  mechanical properties, similar to grade 316 stainless steel. The tensile strength of 317 grade stainless steel is 515 Mpa, its yield strength is about 205 Mpa, elongation percentage at 2” is around 35% while its maximum brinelled hardness value stands at 217. The material has higher strength than the 316 material as well. The minimum yield strength is 275MPa and the minimum tensile strength is 620MPa with 45% elongation and 193HB max hardness. There are different types of fasteners such as the SS 317L Socket Cap Screw which is used for applications that need to the use of heavy tools and high torque strength. The fasteners belong to ASTM A193 and 194 standards. The length of the fasteners range from 3mm to 200mm. They have good electrical resistivity and magnetic permeability with 40% elongation at break. The density of this material is slightly lower than that of the other austenitic grade UNS S31703 bolts. These fasteners have a melting point of 1320 degrees Celsius and therefore they can operate under elevated temperatures as well. The operating temperature of the DIN 1.4449 fasteners can range up to 899 degrees Celsius.
